UNSATISFACTORY BOUT.
WIN FOR RAYNER. FRANKLIN DISQUALIFIED. [By Telegraph.—Press Association]. WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. A disappointment was in store for followers of boxing at the Wellington Town Hall last night, when the professional boxing contest between Clarrie Raynor (Blenheim), New Zealand lightweight champion, and Joe Franklin (Gisborne), lasted less than four rounds. In the fourth round Franklin was warned for hitting after being ordered to break, and a little later when the pair were in a clinch near the ropes Raynor collapsed to the mat and the referee. Mr. A. Maxwell, disqualified Franklin and awarded the contest to Raynor.
The decision met with a hostile reception. Rayner was hooted as he left the ring.
