NO SKILLED LABOUR.

SHORTAGE IN GISBORNE. TIMBER MILL TROUBLES. SHUT DOWN POSSIBLE. [By Telegraph. —Press Association]. GISBORNE, June 24. A statement that a timber mill which he had opened at Motuhora might have to be closed on account of a shortage of skilled labour, was made yesterday by Mr. F. W. Peddle. He explained that he kept operations going at a heavy financial cost to himself. Unless labour problems were solved in the near future he would have to shut down the mill, a step iio was reluctant to take, as it would mean the loss of employment to ap-

proximately 20 men. Skilled labour was not obtainable for the mill, said Mr. Peddle. He had applied to the State Placement Service, which Fad made inquiries throughout the Dominion without success.
