PLACEMENT SERVICE.

YOUTHS AND GIRLS.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION. VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE. The District Placement Officer, Mr. L. H. Armstrong, advises that youth centres are being established in Wellington and Christchurch, and the Youth Employment Branch of the Placement Service at Auckland will in future be known as the youth centre. In other centres this branch of work will be taken over by placement officers. This branch will take over the placement of youths, boys and girls between school-leaving ago and 21 years, respectively. Boys and girls' vocational guidance officers will be appointed in the three centres, a lady officer undertaking the interview and placement of girls. Although the service has always endeavoured, unofficially, to find positions for girls who have applied, it is a new departure to take over the official placement of females. The placement officr, so that persons will be placed in the best environment, will consult parents at any time, and confer with Hie schoolmaster, where the applicant attended. The only object of the scr-

vice will be to place the young people where they will be satisfied and where their natural abilities may be utilised to the best advantage.

The Tauranga Placement District embraces the following towns: Ngatca, Thames, Paeroaj' Waihi, Te Puke, Whakatanc and Opotiki, and neighbouring districts. The certifying officers in the above towns will advise, place if possible, or forward any applications to the Placement Officer, Tauranga.
