AUCKLAND’S HOUSING.
SYSTEMATIC CLEARANCE.
OF OLD DWELLINGS. TOWN PLANNING SCHEMES. [By Telegraph.—Press Association] AUCKLAND, Dec. 13.
The housing problem of Auckland City ig one of systematic clearance, and the redevelopment of central areas is the conclusion of the Town Planning Committee of the Auckland City Council, which will report to the Council to-night on the basis of the city engineer’s housing survey report.
The committee commends the Government for initiating the housing survey legislation, stating that in no other tvav could conditions have been brought about.
“While housing is proceeding in new areas, chronic decadence still persists at the core,” states the report, which adds that the survey emphasises the necessity for extended powers for demolitions, control 1 of occupancy, and surveillance of by-law enforcement.
