The first race meeting of the new season at Auckland will take place ai Elierslie to-morrow 1 ,- when the i’aku ranga Hunt Club will hold its annua, meeting. The acceptances in all events are good and the course suould be in excellent order after the recent spell of fine weather.
The chief jumping event will be the Pakuranga Hunt Cup, a steeplechase of about three miles, in which a field of 14 have accepted, the well-known ’chaser, Windsor Lad, being at the top of the weights with the solid impost of 12.5. The two flat races that will engage the attention of followers of the sport are the Jellicoo and Dunedin Handicaps, of 1 mile and 6 furlongs, respectively, which have drawn large fields.
As a number of the horses engaged have not been in training very long, many of them are at present of unknown form and selection will be rather difficult. Then again some have accepted for two events, and it is difficult to say in which race they will start. Should the present fine weather hold up, there should be a large attendance, and tbe club should have a very successful meeting.
