A PLUCKY MAORI.
WOUNDED IN SHOULDER. WHEN PIG-HUNTING. IN FAIRLY SERIOUS STATE. [By Telegraph.—Press Association! OPOTIKI, Aug. 20. Considerable fortitude was shown by a Maori, Kaliu Pulia, single, aged 38, who was severely wounded in the left shoulder by a shotgun while pig hunting near.Raukokore, on the east coast, about 50 miles from Opotiki. Puha went hunting, accompanied only by his dogs. The dogs scented a pig, and Pulia cocked his shotgun ready to shoot. The dogs succeeded in bailing up and holding the pig, and Puha decided to use his knife in killing the animal. He put the gutt on the ground, and after killing the pig, seized the gun bv the barrel. It went off, and Puha received the full charge of shot in his shoulder.
Tn spite of his severe injury, tho Maori prepared the pig to take it away, slung it on his back, and walked several miles to Mr. J. S. W. Neilson’s sheep station. He was then brought to the Opotiki Hospital by car,, whero he now lies in a fairly serious condition.
