Height Money.

PAY ON VIADUCT. MEN TALK OF STRIKE. REQUEST TO DEPARTMENT. (By M'elegi-aph.—Press Association). WAIROA, Oct. 1. A strike among the men employed on the construction of the Mohaka Viaduct was threatened this week, but did not eventuate. Some trouble arose at the camp owing to a demand by the men actually engaged on the viaduct for Avhat is known as "height money," and the men • communicated with Wellington, but so far the request has not been granted. A meeting representative of all sections of the workers on the viaduct, was held during- the week-end, and from what could be ascertained it was expected that the men would cease work on Monday. It is now learned, however, that they are to wait until-the visit of the Minister for Public Works, Mr. R, Semple, to the district, and will put their ease before him.
