SEAPLANE SENT.

TO GREAT- BARRIER,

HOSPITAL'S PROMPT rRESPONSE

'By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 1.

Following an urgent message received from the Great. Barrier Island, where the three-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mcdlands had suffered, a severe injury, to the neck, the medical superintendent of the Auckland Hospital, Dr. J. W. Craven, arranged with SquudronLeader L. M. Isitt, of the Hobscnville air base, for a seaplane to bo despatched to the island to bring the child to the hospital.

Carrying a resident doctor from the hospital, a seaplane, piloted by Flying-Officer R. J. Cohen, left Hobsouville at 8 o'clock yesterday morning and landed at Port Fitzroy before 9 o'clock. Dr. CraVen .had arranged in advance for local residents to meet the seaplane and to guide the doctor to the house where the child was.

The doctor fixed plaster of Paris on the child's neck so that she could not move her head, and after he had given minor medical attention to one or two patients on the island, the machine took off again. Mrs. Medlands and the doctor accompanied Che injured child. The seaplane returned to the base about 2 p.m., and the child was rushed by St. John ambulance to the hospital. Her condition was reported to be satisfactory. Dr. Craven paid a tribute to the services of Squadron-Leader Isitt in immediately placing the seaplane at the disposal of the hospital.
