THAMES TROTTING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. Increased Interest Taken. MOVE TO IMPROVE STAKES. CONDITIONS IMPROVING. The annual meeting of the Thames Trotting Club, which was held last evening, was well attended and keen interest was taken in matters pertaining to the Welfare of trotting in this district. The president, Mr. J. Twohill, was in the chair, and the report and bal-ance-sheet (which have already been published) were adopted. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted as follows :« Patron, Mr. J. Thorn, M.P.; vicepatron, Mr. Ben. Faithful. President: Mr. J. Twohill. Vice-presidents: D. Mackay, E. J. McLoughlin, R. M. Rhodes and E, Watson. Stewards: Messrs. H. Bax, J. Casey, J. H. Cprbett, C. J. Garland, E. J. McLoughlin, G. Gray Smith, T. G. Tizard, H. A. Vollemaere, E. Elliot, G. Gray, H. G. Murray, W. B. Teasdale, Committee: Messrs, E. Elliott, G. Gray, H..G. Murray, W. B. Teasdale, J. H. Ensor, R, M. Rhodes, E. B. Tizard, S. R. Heslop, D. Mackay, E. S. KeVen, J. Kidd and L. Griffin. The president asked for some indication of policy for guidance of the committee during the coming year. .Question of Stake Money. Mr. R. M. Rhodes advocated increasing the stake money for the next meeting. He pointed out that eVery support was needed from the owners, otherwise there wouli be no support from the public. He suggested that two members of the club should make an active canvass of the owners. Mr. W. S. Clark said he was entirely with Mr. Rhodes in the mat r ter of increasing tj.e stakes. Totalisator returns were now on the upgrade, and the time was opportune to go forward. Owing to lack of support from owners, the club had languished in the past two years. In his opinion the' club should put through £IO,OOO or £12,000 pver the totalisator in a one-day : meetjng. He thought the club should raise the stakes from £§Bs as at ]as.t year to, about £BO9 or'£goo. He thought it was a gepd suggestion to sgnd someone round to interview pAyners. Such a moVe could not fail to be beneficial. Mr. if. H. En§or endorsed the prpvious speakers? rgjnarjvs,, and announced" tlmf, he had the pronps,e pi! a gob] whip for the t\yo-iniles trotters' race, the donor wishing to remain anonymous. Mr. F. MeCullough also supported the move to raise stakes. He said other clubs had done so in accordance with the times. If Thames followed suit, he had no doubt that additional revenue would be forthcoming. He moved a resolution, ''That it be a recommendation to the committee to consider ways and means of raising the stakes for tba next meeting." This was carried unanimously.

Votes of Sympathy.

The president made feeling reference to the ill-health of Mr. E. J. Clendon, and said that gentleman had always been of great assistance to the club. He wished him a speedy return to health. The speaker moved that a letter be sent from the club. This was carried.

The president then proposed a vote of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. Syd. Groat, This was carried, the members standing.

Appreciation

A vote of thanks to the Press was passed, the chairman remarking that the Press had helped the club on many occasions.

! Mr. Clark, speaking on behalf of the members, proposed a vote of thanks to the president and officers of the club for the work done during the past year. This was carried by acclamation, and the meeting terminated.
