Posed As Girl.

MAN FROM CHARGED WIT 1? Q A 3 THEFT. CASE REMANPEp, (By Telegraph.— press Association). AUCKLAND, Sept. 30. The young man who was arrested in an Auckland hotel on Saturday, dressed as a girl, Phillip Walter Darcy Stewart, was remanded to appear in Wanganui on October 5 on a charge of theft of a car valued at £230, the property of Jack Herbert Luxford, Wanganui. Mr. Munro, for Stewart, submitted that the charge should be reduced to unlawful conversion, also that the case be heard summarily in Auckland. He said Stewart, who is 19, is just beyond the juvenile age, was pleading guilty.

Detective-Sergt. McHugh was not prepared to reduce the charge, as all the witnesses were in Wanganui. "He admits stealing the car to sell it to get money to go to Sydney," added Mr. McHugh. "Some of the property left by the oAvner in the car was thrown into the Wanganui River, and this will probably be tho subject of another charge. ' The magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, explained the charge was indictable, and he must grant the application for a remand to Wanganui.

"All the same, I agree with you it will be a waste of public money," added Mr. Hunt. "ft would be much better to deal with it now and let him get back to his work. The whole case would be over here in ten minutes." Bail was fixed at £3OO or two sureties of £l5O.
