Fish Research.

FRESII-AVATER AREAS

WORK TO CONTINUE. The fresh-water fish research committee, whose work is to be taken over by the Marine Department, is at present carrying on under subsidy from the Government, and the staff is carrying out its programme as already arranged, according to the chief inspector of fisheries, Mr. A. E. lletford, who is visiting Christchurch.

It was the intention of the Government, he said, to carry on the work in Wellington, but the move from Christchurch would not be made at present as there was not a suitable laboratory yet available. The Government intended to retain the services of the present staff. The committee would ultimately be dissolved, but it was possible that an advisory board would be set up.
