FIRM TONE GENERAL.
BIG CLEABANCE EFFECTED. , - DEMAND FOR CROSSBREDS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association). WELLINGTON, March 17. The quantity of wool offered at the fourth Wellington wool sale yesterday was a large one for a March sale, being '28,481 bales, as against 21,(580 bales at the corresponding sale last year, and compared with the average offering of 30,710 bales at the December, January and February sales this season. Over Do per cent, clearance was effected.
There was a full bench of buyers, representing all sections ot the trade. From the outset it was apparent that crossbreds were in strong demand, all classes meeting keen bidding. Fine wools were generally firm and crossbreds, which met with a keen demand, were firm all round compared with the lebrua?y rates. Among notable realisations were 3 5 j,» for half bred ewes and lod for ■hs.-vera! lots of halfbreds; 15:{<1 for "Merino hogget; 12. M for super crossbreds; 12d for super ewes, and up lo 10Ml for other lines of medium to fine crossbreds; lid to 11 Jd for crossbred hoggets, and 12.}d to 13(1 for lambs.
