OVERHAUL INTENDED. THE ATMORE REPORT. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. The announcement that the Government intended to examine the whole education system, and that the report made by Mr. 11. Atmore when he was Minister for Education would be taken as a basis in deciding upon any changes, was made by the Minister for Education, Mr. P. Eraser, when addressing the Canterbury Education Board. Mr. Eraser said that the Government realised that it could not transform the education system overnight, but it was felt that a start should be made on the examination system. Referring to Mr. Atmorc’s report, the Minister said there were groposals in it which would nut meet with the approval of all, but the report could be taken as a basis. The assistance of the Education Department, school committees, teachers and parents, as far as they could be reached, would bo enlisted. Nothing ‘ would be rushed, but there would be no undue delay.
