CONCESSIONS CONTINUE.
ASSISTING PARENTS
THE MINISTER'S DECISION. A decision to continue the concessions which have been granted to free place pupils in all types of Government post-primary schools for the past five years has been made by the Minister for Education, Mr. P. Eraser. The Minister said that because, many parents were still in grave financial difficulty he had approved of an extension of junior free places for an additional year for pupils at post-primary schools who had not already hold free places for more than two years and who had failed to secure senior free places at the end of 1935. He had also approved of an extension to the end of the present year of the senior free places of pupils who would attain the ago of 19 years during the year, provided that, in the case of both junior and senior free place extensions, the parent of the pupil proved to the satisfaction of the Director of Education that he was unable to provide the necessary fees for the tuition of his child after the expiry of his free place. Mr. Fraser said that in the ease of junior pupils, except under special circumstances, no consideration would be given to any application for a concession if it was not made within a month after the reopening of the school. Parents would bo expected in the first instance to apply to the principal of the school.
