Railway Projects.

POKENO-PAEROA LINE,

COMMENTS BY MR. THORN. The expenditure of an am.unit equivalent to one year's interest on the old loans for the Napier-Gis-borne railway would complete the line as far as Wairoa, said. Mr. J. Thorn. M.P., when speaking at Pa«roa on Tuesday evening.

In reply to a question the Thames member said he had not yet brought under the notice of the Government the need for completing the PokenoPaeroa railway, but was awaiting a. favourable opportunity, as the Government already had much to engage its attention, of suggesting a new route.

The past Government, added Mr. Thorn, seemed diffident about undertaking the line owing to some fear of Waikato opinion, but the present Government was not concerned in that respect, being imbued with the determination to do what was best for any district and also the Dominion at lai-ge.
