Thames Old Boys.

ASSOCIATION'S REUNION. LACK OF INTEREST REGRETTED EARLY DAYS RECALLED. There was a disappointing attendance at the Thames Old Boys' Association's quarterly reunion in the Miners' Union Hall last evening, a fact that was commented on by the president, Mr. E. Watson. Mr. Watson said the executive was a keen and enthusiastic body, doing its job in a commendable manner, and it was rather disheartening to see the lack of interest taken by many membez's. He intimated that at its next meeting the executive would have to discuss the abandonment of the quarterly nights in favour of one gathering at the end of the year.

The toast-list honoured was:—

"The King"; "The Old Pioneers," Messrs. J. Hardman and A. Campbell; "Thames Volunteer Fire Brigade," Messrs. E. Watson and C. Scott; "The Press," Messrs. S. C. Muir and K. Graham and G. Hay. In replying to the toast of "The Old Pioneers," Mr. Campbell recalled the days of the bigger and brighter Thames, when batteries in all directions were working three shifts a day. If the same activity was in vogue to-uay, he said, the town would regain some of its old glamour. Mr. Campbell also spoke of the time when he was a runner for the the "Thames Star." He was only nine years old when he took the papers over the Eureka, Waiotahi, Moanataiari and Punga Flat localities and did the journey on foot. Musical items were rendered by Messrs. C. Goebel, K. Graham, A. Briggs and W. Johnston. Messrs. R. Muir and L. Baker acted as accompanists.
