“Positive Waste.”
COSTLY GOVERNMENT MINISTERIAL FIGUREHEADS. MASTER GROCER’S COMMENT. (Special to Star). DUNEDIN, Jan. 31. At the annual conference of tho New Zealand Master Grocers’ Federation, Mr. W. J. Evans, of Auckland, president, in his opening ad dress said that what New Zealand needs is men in authority with ability, men who command the respect and confidence of the people, not one party trying to discredit the other, creating distrust, but all working £ov the benefit of the Dominion. Laboui and capital were inseparable, and should be joined in brotherhood. The speaker said they deplored the undemocratic action of the Government in appointing to Cabinet rank any other than those carrying the hallmark of the electors. “Further,” he added, “I marvel it the expense incurred by Ministers. In my judgment there is positive waste/ lam convinced that men taking Cabinet rank should be able to take the weight of that office and not serve as figureheads employing others to do the work.”
