Will Not Pay.
UNFAIR SALES TAX. CHRISTCHURCH TAILORS’ DECISION. (By Telegrapn—Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 31. One of the largest meetings of the Christchurch master tailors held here for many years discussed what was considered to be the unfairness of the sales tax as applied to the tailoring trade. After a discussion based upon the attitude being adopted by the Dunedin tailors, the following motion was carried: “That a letter be sent to the Government stating tailoring firms represented at this meeting have decided to furnish returns to the Customs, as required by law, but that no further tax be paid pending reconsideration by the Minister as promised to the Dunedin tailoring trade committee.” Dunedin tailors have refused to pay any further sales tax because of alleged discrimination against them.
