CHRISTMAS BOX.

RELIEF WORKERS. Special Pay Granted. BOARD'S DECISION. THE FULL DETAILS. The Unemployment Board has decided, in addition to granting the usual Christmas and New Year concession of, payment for the two weeks the No. 5 scheme is suspended, to make a special Christmas relief cash payment of an amount equivalent to one week's current measure of relief, to the following classes of workers who were actually on relief or eligible therefor in the week ending December 8, 1934, and who have been in receipt of relief under ajiy of the Unemployment Board's schemes for a period, or periods, totalling not less than 13 weeks during the previous 12 months: — (1) Scheme 5 workers employed on a rationed basis.

(2) Men in receipt of sustenance without work.

(3) Gold prospectors employed under Schemes Nos. 5 and Ba, and men engaged on track improvement and other preparatory work; also persons engaged on developmental work other than those employed at standard rates of pay. (4) Camp workers employed by local bodies, Forestry, Public Works and other Government Departments, except where the men are employed at standard rates of pay. (5) Bureau workers, inquiry officers and supervisors who are in receipt of not more than £3 per week.

In cases where workers are engaged under Scheme No. 5 for three weeks out of four, or work the month's ration continuously, tho cash grant payable will be equal to one-fourth of the current fourweekly measure of relief.

For men who are actually engaged upon track improvement and other preparatory work in connection with the Unemployment Board's gold prospecting scheme, the cjisli grant payable will be the gold prospecting subsidy rates of 15/- per week for single men, and 30/- per week for married men. Where local employing authorities receive a subsidy from the Unemployment Fund in respect of tho wages of workers employed for fulltime, the special Christmas cash grant will not apply. .r-^^TS
