N.Z. Earthquakes.
FIVE TREMORS RECORDED. DOMINION OBSERVATORY. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, Nov. 28. The seismograph at the Dominion Observatory recorded five earthquakes on Monday with New Zealand origin following a long period of quiescence. At 11.58 a.m. and again at 12.5 p.m. tremors were recorded, which at Dannevirke were of magnitude three. At 12.12 p.m. there was a distinct shock, the centre of which was 90 miles distant. This was felt at Dannevirke as magnitude five and at Palmerston North as magnitude four.
At 12.36 p.m. there was another tremor similar to the first ones recorded. At 8.33 p.m. another distinct shock was registered. It had its centre further away than that at 12.11, a distance of 194 miles, which would place it in Hawke's Bay.
WAIROA ROCKED. HEAVY SHOCK. (By Telegraph—Press Association). ' GISBORNE, Nov. 28. A heavy and prolonged earthquake, with a lateral movement in a south to north direction, was experienced in Wairoa at 8.30 on-Monday night. The shock was not severo enough to cause damage. It was felt only slightly in Gisborne, and passed unnoticed by many people.
