School Armoury.
OUTBREAK OF FIRE. INCENDIARY SIGNS. NO RIFLES STOLEN. (By Telegraph—Press Association). Nov. 9. A report Avhich had been furnished to the police indicates that an attempt Avas made to burn doAvn the armoury at the Christchurch Boys’ High School early yesterday morning.
Shortly before 6 o’clock the groundsman, Avhen going to collect horses, passed the corner of the armoury, Avhich is a Avooden shed. At that time there Avas no sign of fire. When he returned a quarter of an hour later smoke Avas issuing from the armoury, in Avhich are stored 500 rifles valued at several thousands of pounds. The groundsman and a caretaker, Avith the aid of a hose, Avere able to subdue the flames. Colour is lent to the theory that someone tried to burn down the building by the presence under the floor of piled-up heaps of burning debris.
The blaze started under the flooring near .one of the doors, broke through the boards in three places, and Avas found just in time. A pile of material Avas burned under the damaged boards.
