RECONDITIONING WORK. CABINET GRANTS £2OOO. AFTER YEARS OF WAITING. The Hauraki Plains County Coun' cil was advised at its meeting yesterday by the Minister for Lands, Mr. E. A. Ransom, that the necessary investigations regarding the proposed reconditioning of the Wai-takaruru-Maukoro Canal had been made, and that Cabinet had approved of expenditure up to £2OOO in the current -year to enable the work to be commenced. *lt was anticipated that an early start would be made.

When the work is completed holdings .near the head of the canal will benefit directly through drainage facilities that will be available. A large block of land, in the vicinity of 306 acres, in the same locality, that has been unworked, will be able to be drained and cut up.
