Plains Tennis.

MANY CLUBS INACTIVE. COMPETITION PLAY DOUBTFUL. From 'present prospects it is apparent that tennis will experience a lean season on the Plains this year, as there remains now only three clubs —Turua, Kerepeehi and Kaihere. A few years ago there were eleven clubs functioning, and nine had teams playing in the Hauraki Plains Tennis Association's competition. Clubs at Waitakaruru, Ngatea, Patetonga and_ Kopuarahi which played last year are dormant. The Association, however, is hopeful of functioning this season, if only to permit Plains players taking part in open competitions. The position of the Association and the various clubs will be dis;cussed at a meeting to be held on Thursday evening, when it will bo decided whether or npt competition play will be continued.
