CHRISTCHURCH TRAMWAY BOARD.
YESTERDAY’S ELECTION
(By Telegraph —frees Association). CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 1.
The Christchurch Tramway Board election was held yesterday when there was a larger poll than usual. The poll resulted in the Labour candidates Avinning seven of the nine seats. One Independent candidate and one Citizens’ Association representative were elected. The candidates elected were:— The Rev. J. K. Archer, Messrs. E. Parlane, G. Manning, J. Mathison, E. J. Howard, M.P., G. T. Thurston and Mrs. E. McCombs, M.P. (Labour), Messrs. C. E. Jones (Citizens’ Association), and W. J. Walter (Independent). In the central district, where there are five seats, Mr. Archer topped the poll. In the Spreydon-Addington area Mr. Howard Avas elected by an overwhelming majority. Eor RiccartonFendalton a badly-split vote allowed Labour to Avin the seat. The Avon-Brigliton seat Avas won by Mr. Waltei’, and Hills- Sumner by Mrs. McCombs by a narroAV majority over Mr. W. J. Sim.
