TURUA FLOWER SHOW.
SOME STRIKING EXHIBITS. CHURCH FUNDS BENEFIT. The flower show arranged by the ladies of the Turua Anglican Church was held in the Turua Public Hall on Tuesday last. The display of blooms was magnificent, being easily the best ever held in Turua. Exhibits in all classes were numerous and a series of competitions also attracted large entries. The show was a great success financially and as a.result the church funds will benefit to the extent of over £23. The Rev. P. C. Truman, vicar of Hauraki Plains, in opening the show, expressed thanks to the ladies of all denominations for their generous assistance. The Stall-Holders. The stallholders were as follow.: Plain and Fancy Sewing, Mesdames J. A. Walker, H. Vause and W. Roy Elvin. Produce, Mesdames F. Loader and F. L. Hamilton. Sweets, Misses J. Madgwick, B. Sutton and M. Mules. Cakes, Mrs. J. Gibson and Miss G. Bell. Fish Pond, Mrs. H. H. Hicks. Competitions, F. Olsen and R. Madgwick. Afternoon Tea, Mesdames G. Gray, J. E. Carter, M. Reid and R. Madgwick. Judges and Stewards. The following were the judges: — Flowers, Mr. F. J. Causley, Thames. Cookery, Messrs. J. M. Mules and W. J. Abbott. Sweets, Mrs. J. B. McMillan. The receivers of entries were: — Mesdames F. W. Bell, J. H. Johnston, J. E. Green, C. Lambert and W. Roy Elvin.
The stewards were: Mesdames J. E. Green, F. W. Bell, C. Lambert and W. Roy Elvin.
An excellent and attractive collection of blooms was displayed by Mr. A. E. Aberhart, Waihou Street, Turua, for exhibition purposes, and was the subject of much favourable comment. v
: On completion of the judging of the flower section, Mr. F. J. Causley, in an appropriate speech, congratulated the exhibitors generally upon the splendid display of blooms, emphasising in particular the rose section. ... The Prize-List.
