Destroyed By Fire.
FOXTON SHIPPING SHEDS. TOWN'S SERIOUS LOSS. LARGE AREA SWEPT. (By Telegrapn—Press Association). FOXTON, Nov. 14: The most serious local conflagration in years occurred at 11 o'clock this morning, when the New Zealand Shipping Company's sheds, covering a large area, were totally destroyed by fire. Only the efforts of the volunteer fire brigade saved residences adjoining. There were approximately 1000 bales of fibre in store, and no one was in the shed at the time of the fire, the origin of which is thought to be internal combustion.
The outbreak was not noticed until the whole building was a mass of flames. Dense black smoke poured out of the ventilators, and the heat was terrific. The whole building was reduced to ruins within an hour. It is a serious loss to Foxton.
The Canterbury Steamship Company lost £2OO worth of salvage gear housed in the building. The insurances are not available.
