Chieftainess Dead.

THE LATE MRS. ROYAL. FUNERAL AT KOMATA TO-DAY. The death occurred at the Thames Public Hospital early on Tuesday morning of Mrs. Turoa Royal, aged 56 years. Her Maori name was Miria Roera, and she was a daughter of Wiri Netane Tuari, aged 78, who is still living. Mrs. Royal is survived by a family of 11, eight sons and three daughters, the latter being Mrs. T. Royal, of Ohaupo, Mrs. E. Dye, of Auckland, and Mrs. J. Walker, of Opotiki. Mrs. Royal was a chieftainess of the Ngati te Aute tribe, a sub-tribe of the Ngatimaru, and was very much respected in the district. She was born at Thames and lived here all her life. The tangi commenced on Tuesday and was attended by local Maoris and relatives from Auckland, Opotiki and Foxton. The funeral was held to-day at Komata.
