WATERSIDER’S LAPSE. SCENE AT ORIENTAL BAY. £lO FINE IMPOSED. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, Mar. 20. David Clarke McKee, aged 41, a waterside worker 1 , pleaded guilty before Mr. E. Page, S.M., to charges of wilful obscene exposure and drunkenness. It was stated that accused, some time after one o’clock on Saturday, went round to Oriental Bay, completely undressed on the beach, went into the water and swam or paddled about. The police were telephoned for and on arrival found him dressing near the sea wall. There were a number of girls of various ages playing about the beach and some women who could not have avoided seeing him if they had looked. Accused told the magistrate that he had had a lot of drink on Saturday morning and did not know how ,he got round to Oriental Bay. “When in the water,” he said, “1 realised my position. As far as I remember I took as much seaweed as I could get to put round myself before I came out. There was no one within thirty or forty yards of me.” A fine of £lO was imposed, in default 21 days’ imprisonment on the charge of obscene exposure. McKee Avas convicted and discharged for drunkenness. The magistrate refused a request for time to pay, but said the police would afford facilities to communicate Avith anyone Avho could assist him.
