Turua Talkies.
THURSDAY AND SATURDAY.
“TONS OF MONEY" AND “PLAY-
BOY OF PARIS.”
“Tons of Money,” showing at the Turua Hall on Thursday night, is an excellent farcical comedy. It is impossible not to laugh at the series of comical situations Ralph Lynn manages to place himself in. His sense of fun and the way he “puts over” absurdities is inimitable. He plays the part of Aubrey Allington, who comes into a fortune only to realise that if he pays all his debts he will be left with nothing, so he decides to die and come to life again as the next heir. Things go wrong, and he has to die once more. He then appears as a curate, and when that role becomes too hot for him he decides he had' better come to life again as himself. These various characterisation^ 'give Ralph Lynn great scope for displaying his skill as a humorous artist, and the result is excellent.
“Playboy of Paris."
“Playboy of Paris,” showing at the Turua Hall on Saturday night, is an attractive musical comedy, with plenty of laughter and song. Maurice Chevalier brings all of his marvellous, whimsical, love-and-laugh - making talent to his rich role in this picture. As a 'waiter, Chevalier turns work into play; as a millionaire playboy in the brilliant French capital, he turns play into a riot of romance. Chevalier sings several songs, each of which he puts across with an effective lilt, making them catchy and irresistible.
