DISTRICT NEWS.
TURUA. VALEDICTORY. (.From Our Own Correspondent). The many friends of Mr and Mrs F. H. Stephens and family gathered together m the Turua Hall last night to bid them farewell pi-.'or to their departure for Waihi. The evening took the form of a social and dance. Two popular vocal items, "Pagan Love Song" and "Go to Bed," were rendered by Mr A. Sutton.
In making the presentation of a wallet to Mr Stephens and a set of carvers to Mrs Stephens, Mr F. L. Hamilton eulogised the sterling qualities of Mr and Mrs Stephens, both as citJzens and neighbours. During his many years of residence in the district Mr Stephens had helped considerably in all branches of sport and this was also paid tribute to by the speaker. Mr Stephens suitably responded. Music was suppled by Mrs Mules, Mrs Walker and Mr Robertson. Mr F. Scott officiated as M.C. Basketball. The following ladies will represent Turua in their match against College Old Girls "B" at Turua* on Saturday:—Misses J. Loader, C. Harvey, F. Reid, E. Gray, B. Sutton, E. Loveday, G. Hamilton, D. Walker, E. Green. Football. Rugby club competition games will again be suspended on Saturday owing to the fact that Hauraki Plains meets Paeroa in a representative game at Paeroa. The junior game will be played at Ngatea. Mr R. Connors, who received slight concussion and a broken nose whilst play-Vig football at Paeroa on Saturday, has now returned home from Hospital and is making good progress to recovery.
