CHRISTCHURCH BURGLARY.
THEATRE ROBBED. SAFE BLOWN OPEN. BIG SUM OF MONEY TAKEN. Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 14 The Regent Theatre in Cathedral Square was broken into on Sunday night, the safe blown open, and Saturday’s takings, nearly £SOO, were stolen. The thieves climbed to the circle, cloak-room by means of a fire escape, and then broke a window. From there they went to the manager’s room. A drill and explosives were used on the safe in a skilful manner. Caretakers were in the building at the time, but heard nothing. Two years ago the safe of the Liberty Theatre was opened and £4OO taken.
