CLAIM FOR NEGLIGENCE.
SEQUEL TO COLLISION.
(By , Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE. Aug. 22.
The. jury found for the plaintiff and awarded the full amount of damages, £653/12/-, at the' conclusion of the hearing yesterday of a claim for damages arising out of an accident on July 2y 1929, when the plaintiff, Leslie Albert' Redstone, aged 18, was knocked off his bicycle by a car driven by the defendant, Frank James Gartshore. The jury found the defendant was negligent in driving at an excessive speed and in a reckless manner, and failing to keep a proper look-out, and that the plaintiff was negligent in riding a' J cycle without a light or a rear reflector, but that the defendant could, up to the last moment, have avoided an accident by the exercise of reasonable care. Counsel for the defendant moved for a stay of execution pending consideration of an application for a new trial.
Mr Justice Reed made the order accordingly.
