TO-DAY’S TRACK WORK. Several Promising Runs. AWAMUTU GOES WELL. MASTER ARCH PLEASES. (Special to Star.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 21. Beautiful weather prevailed for training work at Ellerslie this morning, Avhen the final gallons in connection with' the Pakuranga Hunt meeting, which takes place on Saturday, w r ere held. The outside of the course proper, with poles 50ft out from the rails was 1 priincipaljljy used flor fast work, while No. 3 grass track Avas also available. The going was heavy. On the Course\ Proper.
Red Lion completed half a mile in 55 4/5. Footrule finished several lengths in front of Cat-i-mes over five furlongs in 1.9 3/5. Lady. Court, assisted by Stimulant, ran home from the six furlong post in L 26. They finished together, both going easily. Gold Money sprinted half a mile in 52 3/5, the last three furlongs taking 40 2/5. She carried a light Aveight, but Avent well. Catoma was sent seven furlongs, running the first three in 41 4/5 anti the full distance in 1.38 1/5. The Catmint gelding did his work m good style. Eager Rose was timed to run a simifir distance in 1.42 and could have improved on this. Llanore and Patutahi finished in front of KaAvainga over half a mile in 54 3/5. Dfayform accomplished a similai task in 55 4/5. Volimond w-as slightly in front of Honiton in a fire furlong sprint in 1.8 3/5. Milvane, on the outside, was along-
side Operatic after completing four furlongs in 53 1/5. Both horses Avere kicked up to their work at the finish. Great Emblem and FrothbloAver were on terms, Avith Gay Cockade and Principal a length or two away at the end of six furlongs, in 1:25. Thunderstorm and Wild Country easily accounted for Prince Amans over six. furlongs covered in 1.25 1/5. Tetrachate ran home from the half mile post in 56 4/5. Hannibal was holding Bennie safely while running six furlongs in 1.23 4/5. Hannibal is in good' order for his race on Saturdav.
High Pitch alone ran seven furlongs in 1.37 2/5. Fall o’ the Year had slightly the better of Marble Mount and Cat-ulus, Avith Searamouche several lengths away, after completing a mile in 1.58.
Quincoma and Odin Avere associated over a round in 2.19. Desert Glow and Flying Prince (the former on the outside) covered five furlongs in 1.10 4/5; there Atfas little between them at the finish, hut Desert Gloav impressed more. Sub-Editor and United jumped off in front of Mon, Star at the three furlong post, and finished in front in 40 3/5; Sub-Editor had the advantage of United when the post Avas reached. Awamutu, looking well, jumped aAvay at the half mile post and ran home in 52 1/5; he carried a light boy, and galloping very freely, recorded the best time of the morning. Biddy Comet ran half a mile, but Avas not after time. Escalus strode over five furlongs in 1.13 1/5. No. 3 Grass Track. Maori Boy’s task Avas confined to easy pacing on this track. Currajong and Spring Song die] strong Avork over a, round in 1.55 4/5. Lady’s Boy sprinted a few furlongs, but Avas not on a time-making mission. Others to do useful work Avere:— Nancy Lee, Bizarre, Tambourine, I Imperial Prince, Sir Archiei, New I Boy, Waltzer, Grand Spirit, Cynthia, N., Good Bov, Royal Gallant, Herbie, Informant, Gay Idea, Good Idea, Royal Tea and The Fox, while Speech, fact and Golden Spalii were given a run along over two furlongs on the two-year-old track. The Jumpers. Rodger (R. Olive) cleared the stonewall safely and afterwards Avorked over six furlongs on No. 3 grass track. Foxhound (A. Gilmer), Master Arch (J. Leach) and Lovbly Boy (J. Mcßae) Avere associated in a schooling bout over the steeplechase course; they commenced at the brush fence,
near the mile post, Master Arch giving the ‘ other two a number of lengths’ start. They cleared the double on the hill and finished up oiver the fences on the flat, March Arch being slightly in front of Foxhound, Avho came to grief at the last fence (the stonewall). Lovely Boy, wlio Avas folloAving him, se\*eral lengths back, AA'liipped round, owing to. Foxhound struggling on the ground on the far side of the obstacle, directly in front of him. Lovely Boy was taken back, and cleared the fence safely, as djd Foxhound.
Master Arch gave a safe display throughout and, for a novire, Lovely Boa* gave a promising exhibition.
