OBITUARY.
MR. PERCY McELWAIN. Few people on Thames did not know the late Mr Percy (Sandy) MeElwain, who passed away at the Auckland Hospital yesterday. He was born in Waiuku, but later came to Thames and identified himself with all the progressive movements of the town. Perhaps he was best known in Rugby football circles, for he represented Thames and the Goldfields teams for many years, and afterwards took a prominent part in the administration side of the game. He was closely connected with the Newton Club, and was representative of the Thames Rugby Union on the Auckland Rugby Union at the time of his death. Sadly enough he was ill when Thames visited Auckland on July 12, but got up especially to see his old Union team play, which caused relapse. He leaves a widow, a Thames-born lady, sister of Miss E. McLoughlin and Mrs McCarroll, of Hape Road, and a son, Walter, of Auckland. He was a master mariner, and for many years commanded different river steamers around the gulf, later joining the McGregor line. Known all over the district for his genial personality, he will be very much missed in all circles.
