. A fireman who' deserted from the Kia Ora with the intention. of, settling in New Zealand and bringing out his wife, came before the magistrate yesterday on the charge of desertion and. the theft of a suitcase and its ; contents.
He said he took the latter to keep himself respectable-looking " while finding a job, and intended to return it. '*;■; ; :■-■ - Mr Page remarked that he was a likely-looking young man, and gave him a chande to make good. He ordered him to come up at any time within 12 months. / > ,
