PUSHING OUT TRAWLERS.
DEPUTATION TO MINISTER
SPAWNING GROUND WANTED.
(By Telegraph—Own Correspondent) AUCKLAND, March 27. Protesting against the wholesale destruction of small fish in the Hauraki Gulf as the result of the operations of Danish seine trawlers, Auckland members of Parliament waited on the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, Minister of. Marine. The request was made that the trawlers be expelled permanently from the area between, Motuihi to the Big Noisies, thence to the extreme end of Thumb Point, thence to Kauri Point to Shag Rock, down the east side of Chamberlain's Island to the Spit lighthouse, thence across to, the Coromandel coast. They asked that the waters within these limits be proclaimed as spawning grounds for all time. Mr Cobbe promised to go fully into the matter.
