LIGHTNING AT WAIHI.

A TRANSFORMER STRUCK

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WAIHI, Sept. ' 25.

During a severe thunderstorm yesterday morning an electrical transformer stationed in Kenny Street, near the police station, was struck by a vivid flash of lightning, which was seen running along the wires. A loud report followed, and then smoke was seen risisg.

The transformer was blown out and ?n consequence the power and lighting supply in the central portion of the town was cut off.

The transformer is under the control of the Thames Valley Power Hoard. Telephonic communication was also interfered with to some'extent by the lighting.
