DISTRICT NOTES.
TURUA. (From Our Own Correspondent). An event of considerable interest on the Hauraki Plains was th e first public appearance of the newly-form-ed Turua Town Band at a sacred concert held in. the Turua Hall on Sunday. August 19. There were nearly thirty players in the band and over twenty of them were boys who had been under the tuition of Mr. H. Christie for just over two months, and ho mu.st have been very proud of the nice compliments he received about his teaching and the progress of his “Bovs' Band." <
The whole concert was an unaquaiified success, the singing being especially good, and the Band Committee are very grateful to tho.se ladies and gentlemen who contributed, to make a most enjoyabiq evening. The Band gave two items and the National Autumn. Mr. Welch a cornet solo, and the following ladies and gentlemen, songs: Mrs. K. C. Fox. Mrs. F. C. Robinson.' Turua; Mrs. Adam. Miss M. Adam, and .Mr. Godckut. Netherton. and the Ngatea Quartette. A collection was taken at the door and will materially help the Baud's instrument Fund.
KUAOTUXU. At the last meeting 0/ the Coromandel County Council it was decided to ex; end £2O in improving the Iviiao-tumi-Coromandel Road. The Council also supported -Mr. John. Schiskaska in his application to the Minister of Public Works to have the Owern-Kuao-tumi section of this road made fit for motor traffic. When the Minister was in tlio disrict some time ago the riding councillor brought before Ills notice the importance of connecting up this road through' to Coromandel, and was backed up by Mr. T. \Y. Rhodes. M.P.. so it is hoped that in time something will be done. Mr. A. McMillan, of Thames, is at present in the district. installing milking machines. The supply ..of cream from this district i,. 'rnd? sufficient to warrant the Mercurv" Bay Dairy Company seeding its contractor to collect it.
Mr. Quent:m Eraser, who has been in Australia for several years, returned to We l.i net-oil by the Ulimaroa un August 21. He arrived in Kuaotunu some three da vs biter. #
The Kuaotunu Rugby Football Club held their final meeting for the season recently. The events of the past season were discussed and the balancesheet presented. To terminate the vein- successful year the Club provided a “five-gallons” and. a cheery afternoon was spent by the footballers' and supporters in the local tennis court paviion..
