FRIDAY, AUGUST 31, 1928. INCREASED PAY.

“With malice towards none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right.”—Lincoln.

The announcement that an increase in Police Force pay lias been authorised by Cabinet will be received with satisfaction bv the general public. A high standard of efficiency and character is demanded in the New Zealand Police, but there has been a tendency on the part of promising- officers to resign from the Force to accept more remunerative positions elsewhere. The improved rate of pay should assist to 'maintain the Force at the required standard. It should also serve to attract recruits of th e right calibre.
