TENSE MOMENTS.

AT TE AROHA COUNCIL MEETING

MR. JAMES AND MR. LOPDELL

There were many tense moments during the discussion on the bridge at the T<T Arolia Borough Council meeting on Wednesday night, and the most exciting moments were just as the Council was rising. Mr. James stepped forward and asked : May I place an exhibit on the table, Your Worship? The Mavor said he had no objection. While the Councillors, engineers, contractors, officials and Press representatives looked on curiously Mr. James proceeded to remove newspaper wrapping from something he held in his hand. Soon part of a bar of steel was revealed. Mr. James pointed out that it was covered with rust and said it was a sample of what was going on the bridge. As Mr. Jameswas in the midst of his explanations Dir. Lopdell stepped forward and addressing His Worship first and then Dir. James said he would have to insist on the piece of steel being taken back to the bridge at once. It was his property and no one had any right to remove it without his consent. There had been enough materials' taken from the bridge, he said, without the clerk of works starting to carry things away. Mr. James replaced the paper round the steel and took it away.—News.
