COLLISION AT SYDNEY.
TAHITI SINKS FERRY BOAT. NINE PASSENGERS DEAD. MANY INJURED AND MISSING. (Special.—Own Correspondent.) AUCKLAND, Nov. 4. The steamer Tahiti ran down a ferry •steamer "The Greycliffe" in Sydney THarbour yesterday afternoon. In the collision the smaller craft -was cut right down to the water-line, -and she sank in three minutes. At least nine passengers are reported to be dead, many are missing, and numbers of others were injured and •sent to the hospital. When the ferry steamer foundered "her passengers were thrown into the water, and some of them were found -clinging to pieces of wreckage. Immediately the disaster occurred, launches and other ferry boats raced •to the rescue, and there were many incidents of heroism on the part of the -rescuers. Several of the passengers who were ■saved were in so bad a condition that • efforts to resuscitate them had to be made at the spot where they were landed. The nine victims whose bodies were recovered have been identified. The New' Zealand cricketers are on T board the Tahiti, which cleared the Heads at 8 p.m. At the time of the • collision she was in the charge of a -jpilot.

In addition to the nine identified •dead, the number of missing is gradually mounting. A diver is being sent down to search •lor bodies in the Greycliffe's cabins. Many are believed to have gone down, .as only a few minutes elapsed before •Tthe severed portions of the ferry •steamer sank. It is expected the death-roll will be tin the vicinity of 50.
