MISHAP TO SCOW.

STRIKES A BRIDGE. TURNS TURTLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DARGAVILLE, Sept. 29. On Saturday morning a scow loaded with sleepers for the Public Works Department, Pukehuia, while being towed through the opening in the Northern Wairoa bridge struck one of the piles which knocked a hole in her forepeak and she immediately began to take in water, eventually turning turtle alongside the bridge, where she now lies. The scow will be towed to, shallow water later for repairs. The members of the crew, when they saw the vessel was likely to turn turtle, climbed up the bridge piles to safety. No damage was done to the bridge, and it is expected that most of the sleepers will be recovered. The scow belonged to the Kaipara S.S. Company.
