PUBLIC CRITICISM. 8 MT. EDEN BOROUGH’S TROUBLES (Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 24. The " Mt. Eden Borough Council decided to dispense ivith the services of the Borough engineer Mr. J. Rogers, as from September Ist next for having publicly criticised the Council. The Mayor Mr. Kay 11, said lie had definitely warned the engineer tht his reports to the Council must first be submitted to him (the Mayor) before publication as passages in previous reports deleted in the Council’s copies, had subsequently appeared in the press. If the engineer was allowed to attack the mayor, executive and council in the press, all discipline would disappear. Several • councillors thought the motion for dismissal by the Mayor too drastic. Mr. Rogers expressed regret that he had given cause for annoyance. The motion was carried by 7 votes to 5.
