GOLF.
SATURDAY’S PLAY. A large number of starters took the field on Saturday afternoon for the Ist round of the President’s Cup, and eighteen, after nobly overcoming the difficulties of hoofmarks fences, drains and natural limitations, struggled to the' Home Green with completed cards. It speaks well for the handicapping that in the eighteen cards there was a difference of 10 only between the highest and lowest net score. As the President’s Cup goes to the player who returns the best two net scores out of 3 rounds, the competition this season for this trophy should be the keenest yet witnessed. The following are among the best scores: C. Poulgrain 95 —14, 81; A. Dodd 98—16,82; G. Clark 99 16. 83; H. Purnell 97—14, 83; G. Shaw 103 —18 85; 11. Lindsay 103 —lB, 85; S. Judd 107—21, 86.
