At the Supreme Court, Auckland this morning, James John Packer, for attempted rape of a girl of 18 years, at the Bay of Islands, was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment.
The Post and Telegraph linesmen •are making good progress with the new Auckland-Paeroa line, writes the Star’s Ngatea correspondent. The posts have been erected ’and wired to within about a mile of the east side of the Ngatea bridge. On Friday • the men shifted' camp 'to Ngatea, t' so as to be nearer their work.
The Texaco Oil Company Ltd., have advised their Thames agents Messrs. McCarthy and Clark, that from to-day there will be a reduction in the retail prices of their motor-spirit, benzine and kerosene. The prices now ruling are motorspirit 27s 6, benfcine 275, and kerosene 18s 6d a case.
