LAD’S DEATH.

(Press Association.) TIMARU, January 4.

Norman McKinnon, aged 18, who recently arrived from the _ North Island, and was residing with his uncle, Mr. Hugh McKinnon, Rangatira Valley, was found last evening with half his head blown off, and a gun beside him, with a note indicating suicidal intentions.

GIRL DROWNED.

(Press Association.) OAMARU, Jan. 5.

A drowning fatality occurred in the Waitaki River yesterday afternoon, near Georgetown, 18 miles from .Oamaru, in which Mary Elizabeth Dromgoole, aged 14, a daughter of a farmer, living in the vicinity, lost her life. Three girls-were bathing in the Waitaki. . One got into difficulties. Another girl went to her assistance, but failed to reach’her mate, and only just managed to- reach the river bank herself. The girl Dromgoole sank, but although the body was recovered within three minutes, * the artificial respiration which was carried out for over an' hour was unsuccessful.

TRAINER’S- SUICIDE

Donald Wilkinson, a well-known horse trainer in Mr Kemball’s stables, committed suicide this morning by cutting his throat with a razor.

PLOUGHMAN KILLED

(Press Association.) TTMARU, January 4. A ploughman named Miles, working near Pleasant Point, was crushed by a roller while working in a paddock, and died soon after he was found.

Olan Hilton Billings, aged 22, a woman who resided with her parents at Roslyn, was drowned while bathing at Brighton beach. Her companion, Catherine Boupart; went, to her assistance, but deceased gripping her, she had to let go*
