TAHUNA.
(From Our Travelling Reporter.)' .•'-.; DRAINAGE WORKS. Some months ago, dissatisfaction was expressed by the settlers in the- V Springdale and Tahuna districts; at the slow progress that was then being made with the #lredging work" that was being carried out by the Lands ' Drainage Department in the Waitoa River. Fortunately,.the position was recognised by the Department, and, as the result of action taken,, a mark-' ed improvement has been made lately. The work has been greatly accelerated, and progress has been made atlthe rate of about nine chains per - month. Five chains is-regarded by *% the heads of the Department as; a good month's work. The Waitoa River, in which the || dredge is at present working, has a sluggish and tortuohs' channel, and | the object of the work in hand is to reduce the length of the river by making straight cuts, instead of follow- ; ihg the many horseshoe bends v The settlers are now well satisfied with the progress that is being made, ant| , if they, are satisfied with the work a|| Government department, to which', they pay rates, isfdoing, then it can be taken for granted that all is well.- \
