DISMISSED.

CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER. (Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 21. ■; A charge of manslaughter against" Lucy Pope' was dismissed by Mr Wyvern "S.M., at the Magistrate's Court.' The charge was that accused had failed to provide necessities for her illegitimate child, born on November 14." It arose out of an inquest on the body of the child, and the hearing was commenced on December 14. To-day, Dr. A. B: Pearson, pathologist at the Christchurch Hospital, gave evidence that, in the ordinary course of events, he would not expect a mother similarly situated to be in a condition to attend to the child. • The Magistrate said that, in view of the evidence, he did not think a jury would convict.
