The Council. agreed to amendments to the Finance Bill No. 2 transmitted from the House of Bepresentatives. The Statute Eepeal and Expiring Laws Continuance Bill .was put through; all stages and passed. HOUSE! O'F REPRESENTATIVES. The House met at 10.30 a.m. Technical amendments to th» Customs BUI were introduced by th» GovernorGeneral's message and agreed to. Amendments of the Death Duties Bill werq also introduced. One amendment fixed the date on which the duty'.under the retrospective clauses becomes payable at one month after the donor of the gift had been notified of the re-assessment of duty. The ©mount of any gift which must be notified was increased from £IOO to £3OO. The amendments were agreed to. The Expiring Laws Continuance Act Amendment Bill was introduced by the Prime Minister who explained that it was not possible to dispose of the subjects dealt with in the Bill finally before the House rose. Therefore he proposed merely '0 extend the operation of the existing act until February 28 next. The Bill was passed through all the stages. LOCAL BILLS. The following local bills were passed.
