SPRINGBOKS' TOUR.

AUCKLAND DEFEATED. :J (Press Association.) , ; AUCKLAND, August 20. There was an attendance at Eden Park of nearly 25,000. The weather was ideal, and the ground dry and. fast. , •■, * The South Africans won the toss, and Auckland had the sun against theniw . • '_■••■ ' The visitors attacked at once til tho local forwards' broke away. They dribbled tho ball over the lino but lost it. Van Rooyen put in a good run as a. result of which Zeller scored after 16 minutes' play. Auckland outplayed their opponents in the open rushes', but the' South African .Hacks were too good for them, especially in line kicking. The first spell ended : South Africa 5,' Auckland 0. On resuming, Auckland-did some and twice looked like scoring. Then fine play by Townsend and Zeller gave the latter a try. Then V. Badeley opened the score for Auckland from a penalty kick.- After that the South African backs more or less ftook charge. Zeller (2), van Heerden and Tindell scored tries. Auckland's only score was a try by Ifwerson, which" Badeley converted, and the game ended: t South Africa 24, Auckland 8. The game was not spectacular j Auckland's combination was . poor and the tackling weak. The South Africans got the better of the scrums, and the'Auckland back's die not get enough of the ball, whereas tho South African v backs were continually handling it, and with good effect.
